Purpose and publisher

Location Guard Next controls the location a website receives when it asks your browser where you are. It does this by changing results from the JavaScript location API. It is an independent extension and is not affiliated with the original Location Guard developer.

The publisher is identified on the Chrome Web Store listing. For privacy questions, use the website’s feedback form.

Data processed on your device

The extension uses website names, such as example.com, to choose which location rule to apply. Chrome stores your saved place names and coordinates, default behavior, website rules, and preferences on your device. These preferences include map colors, units, theme, activity page size, and automatic resume. This data is not synced through Chrome sync.

Chrome’s temporary session storage holds shifted Approximate locations, recent request status for each tab, and saved place-search results. The extension does not read page text, passwords, cookies, form contents, or personal communications.

Device location and website results

Fixed and Block do not ask for your real device location when a website requests it. Approximate and Real use Chrome’s normal location permissions.

Approximate starts with your device location and shifts it by a random amount. It removes altitude, speed, and direction of travel before sharing the result. Only the shifted coordinates are kept for reuse or written to the optional activity log. Real shares the result Chrome normally provides to the website.

While protection is paused, Chrome handles location requests normally. Websites with permission may receive your real location. Your saved rules stay in place. If you choose automatic resume, the extension saves a deadline on your device and uses a Chrome alarm to turn protection back on.

If activity logging is on, Real and paused requests record the real latitude, longitude, and accuracy sent to the website. Paused requests are marked as paused. When logging is off, real coordinates used for these requests are processed without being saved to the activity log.

Use my location

Clicking Use my location in an extension map asks for your device’s position and moves the map pin there. It does not save or apply that location until you choose a save or apply action.

Applying the popup pin saves its coordinates in that website’s rule. This is separate from your saved places and other websites’ rules. Save as a place adds a named location you can use again. Either action can save your real coordinates if you selected them with Use my location, even when activity logging is off.

Centering the map on your device location requests map images for that area from OpenStreetMap. This reveals the viewed area to that provider.

Maps and submitted searches

Opening or moving a map requests images over HTTPS from tile.openstreetmap.org. OpenStreetMap receives your IP address, normal connection details, and the area requested.

Submitting a place search sends your IP address, normal connection details, and search text to photon.komoot.io. Nothing is sent while you type. Search results and identifiers based on your query are kept in Chrome’s temporary session storage. Do not put unrelated private information into a place search.

The extension downloads map images and search data, not executable JavaScript. Each provider sets its own data-use and retention policies. The extension’s publisher does not control how long those providers keep data.

Optional activity log

Activity logging is off by default. If you turn it on, the extension keeps the latest 500 requests on your device. Each entry records the main website’s name, mode, time, and whether the request succeeded or was denied. Full page URLs are not stored.

Successful requests also record the latitude, longitude, and accuracy sent to the website. Fixed entries can include the saved place name. Real and paused entries can include your real coordinates. Approximate entries contain only the shifted coordinates. Denied requests contain no coordinates. Older entries may have no location recorded.

Turn logging off or choose Clear activity to delete the history. Even when logging is off, the extension keeps temporary status for each tab so it can display the most recent request.

Sharing and limited use

The extension has no analytics, ads, accounts, payments, or developer-operated data collection servers. The developer does not receive your saved places or browsing history. The website feedback form is separate and is explained below.

Data is not sold or used for advertising, creditworthiness, lending, or unrelated purposes. Requests to OpenStreetMap and Photon provide the maps and searches you choose to use. Websites receive location results according to your selected rule.

The extension’s use of information follows the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.

Backups, drafts, and log inspection

Export downloads a JSON backup containing your places, website rules, and preferences. It does not include activity history or temporary session data. The file contains coordinates and website names and stays wherever you save it.

After you review an imported backup, restoring it replaces your current settings. If the backup has logging turned off, restoring it also clears existing activity. Location edits you have not saved stay only in the open Settings tab and are lost when you close or reload that tab.

When you delete a place, a temporary copy is kept in session storage for the 15-second Undo period. A browser alarm cleans it up afterward. Opening a recorded location on the map shares that area with OpenStreetMap. It does not change your location rules.

Retention and choices

Saved places and rules stay on your device until you change them, delete them where allowed, or uninstall the extension. Before deleting a place, stop using it in your default and website rules.

Activity entries stay until you clear them, turn logging off, or newer entries replace them at the 500-entry limit. Session data clears when the browser session ends. Approximate results stop being reused after the time you choose. Clear cache stops the extension from reusing those results.

Chrome may keep downloaded files such as map images in its own browser cache until you clear it. Uninstalling removes the extension’s Chrome storage. It does not remove backup files you exported. Third-party providers follow their own retention policies.

Security and limitations

Connections to map and search providers use HTTPS. Chrome extension storage is not a separate encrypted vault. Someone with access to your device or browser profile may be able to read it.

The extension changes JavaScript location requests. It does not change your IP address, timezone, or operating-system location. Websites may use other clues or work around the extension. Fixed can return your selected coordinates even when Chrome would normally deny location access.

The extension does not claim a formally audited privacy guarantee.

Changes and contact

This extension policy describes version 1.18.0 and is effective October 12, 2026. Changes to data handling should be reflected in the public policy and store disclosures. Contact the publisher using the feedback form.

Website feedback

The website feedback form is separate from the extension. When you submit a message, the website stores the category, summary, details, and any browser or extension version you enter. It also stores your reply email if you provide one, the submission time, and a report reference. This information is kept in the website’s hosted database.

We use submissions to review problems, consider suggestions, and reply when you provide contact details. Reports are not published in a public issue tracker. A reply email is optional.

When email notifications are enabled, a copy of your submission, including any reply email you provide, is sent to the site owner through Namecheap Private Email. Namecheap processes the message contents and email delivery information. The website keeps its database copy so a temporary email delivery failure does not lose your message.

Do not include exact coordinates, backups, passwords, or other sensitive information. Submissions and email notification copies stay stored until the site owner deletes them. There is no automatic deletion schedule. To ask for a submission to be deleted, send a message through the feedback form and include your report reference.

Hosting providers may process normal connection information to serve the website. The form does not ask for your device location or automatically collect your extension settings or activity history.
